Anna Netrebko and Elina Garanca sing "Barcarolle"
The ' Barcarolle ' by Jacques Offenbach from The Tales of Hoffman , together with Frederick Chopin's Barcarolle in F sharp major , are probably the two most famous' barcarolles' known today .A 'Barcarolle ' originally being a folk song sung by gondoliers is characterized by a rhythm reminiscent of a gondoliers stroke, almost invariably a moderate tempo 6/8 meter. .....Jacques Offenbach was a composer, cellist and impresario and is remembered for his nearly 100 operettas of the 1850-1870's and his uncompleted opera The Tales of Hoffman. This Performance of Jacques Offenbachs, Barcarolle' is performed by Anna Netrebko ( soprano) and Elina Garanca (mezzo-soprano)
