' A Cruise to Covent Garden ' Isaac Cruikshank (English 1764-1811) Hand-coloured etching , published by Thomas Tegg , 1807. British Museum, London.
Two sailors carry a sedan-chair, in which sits a young prostitute, with one leg out of the front window , as if to kick the bearer, who smokes with closed eye. A third sits tipsily on the roof, smoking, he says: "Come messmates have a head ". Two sailors wear striped trousers , the third a short petticoat and a fur hat. Behind is the portico of St Pauls , Covent Garden, with two men , one a Jew , the other a (?) tipsy parson.
