' Ceiling Fresco , Tepidarium ' Villa of Poppaea . Pompeii 79AD
Oplontis was a town near Pompeii, in the Roman Empire. On 24th of August , 79AD the eruption of Mount Vesuvius buried it under a deep layer of ash. It is today the location of the Villa Poppaea , the Villa possibly associated with the second wife of Emperor Nero . Like many of the frescoes that were preserved due to the eruption of Mount Vesuvius , those decorating the walls of the Villa Poppaea are striking both in form and colour. Many are in the 'Second Style' of ancient Roman painting, dating to 90-25BC .
