' Portrait of Gabrielle Cot ' William Bouguereau (French 1825-1905) oil on canvas, circa 1890. Fred and Perry Ross Collection.
Gabrielle Cot was the daughter of Bouguereau's most famous student, Pierre-Auguste Cot. Bouguereau was intending to use her for one of his major paintings , so he started this painting as a study , but as he worked , he was so captivated by Gabriele's beauty that he finished it as one of his only un-commissioned portraits.
